Love & Hate.
Those feelings best describe my relationship with social media marketing.
On the one hand you have your entire audience at your fingertips.
And on the other hand…
You have algorithms that out of nowhere suppress your reach.
It can be maddening at times.
So what to do?
Focus on what you can control.
Because social media isn’t going anywhere and neither are the fundamentals that will make it work for you…
And that’s your messaging and your content.
Here are a few common mistakes that coaches make when it comes to social media…
1. Chasing Trends Over Strategy
This is one of the most common mistakes people make and it’s that they chase trends instead of building on the fundamentals. They look for that new audio or trend in the hopes of going viral when all that’s going to do is get you more random followers when in reality what we want is the right people following – even if that means a slightly smaller following.
2. Talking Too Much About Yourself, Not Your Audience
This mistake carries over into all areas but is very prominent in social media. You have to remember that your audience is there because they think “you know them”. Not literally but your messaging should have suggested that. So once you get them there, you need to speak about them more than you speak about you.
3. Too Long, Not Snackable
Instead of creating long drawn out content on social media, your goal should be to give them a little taste. More of a snack than a full meal. With the aim at enticing them and sending them to your product, service or site where they can get the main course. Simple way to do this is to create shorter, more direct copy instead of long copy in the description.
