How to Overcome Discouragement

Oftentimes in life…

The most challenging & discouraging situations we go through, tend to be the most transformational.

I’m sure if you look back at your life you have numerous moments…

… Where what seemed “world-ending” at the time turned out to be blessings in disguise.

However, when we are going through these times and in the thick of it…

It can be really hard to stay positive or see the potential “bright side”.

I know this first hand.

But over the years, I’ve learned 3 strategies that have allowed me to overcome discouragement everytime it rears its ugly head.

That’s what I want to share with you briefly today in this email and in more depth on this week’s episode of The Expert Edge.

  1. Change your primary thought

If you’re in a discouraging season of life, chances are the thoughts you are having are going to be reflective of that discouragement. Meaning they’ll be negative. Thoughts like “I’m never gonna make it” “No one is going to buy my course” “People just aren’t buying in this market”.

What you want to do to get out of this cycle is acknowledge the negative primary thought(s) you’re having, be aware of them, and then consciously change your primary thought to one that’s positive and empowering. Thoughts like: “Clients want my stuff” “I attract the most amazing people into my life” etc…

This one seemingly small shift will help you move out of that particularly discouraging season of your life.

  1. Understand the meaning of the feeling your feeling

When you are frustrated or discouraged, it means you most likely are doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Coincidentally, some also call this the definition of insanity!

What you need to do in a situation like this is acknowledge the action(s) you’re taking is not getting you the results you want. So change the action completely! Maybe that means trying a new copywriter or changing your launch strategy completely or increasing your prices…

Whatever the case may be, the key here is to make a significant change.

  1. Join communities that uplift you

One of the absolute best things you can do to get out of a rut is to surround yourself with uplifting people. This is exactly what I do. Every year I join a new group of go getters that are highly driven. Every year I have done this my business has grown significantly and the very few years I tried to pinch pennies instead of joining a community like this, my business either stagnated or decreased from the previous year.

Something magical happens when you’re with a mentor or in a community that is uplifting and pushing you to the next level.

(I have an Implementation group coaching program that does just this. If you’re interested and want to have a quick chat to see if it’s right for you.. Send me a DM on Instagram @ColinBoyd)

This has just been a sneak peak of each strategy discussed on this week’s episode.

To get a much more in depth explanation of each strategy and how to really implement them, listen to this week’s episode!
