I watched a $20M business collapse (and decided I don’t want it)

I want to share an unpopular opinion…

….that you won’t hear from your regular marketing guru.

You see, I met a guy recently running a $20 million coaching business.

He had a hundred employees. Then things got complicated. Legal issues. Customer problems. Compliance headaches.

And just like that, the business went from $20 million down to $2 million, and he had to lay off 95 people in like a week.

I watched that story unfold and thought, “Yeah, no thank you.”

That’s not for me.

I don’t want to build a $20 million coaching business.

There you go, I said it! πŸ™‚

Here’s the thing nobody talks about: at a certain point, you’re not building a business anymore.

You’re building a prison you didn’t realise you were building.

Where you manage 30-50 people and deal with compliance issues in multiple states, and you’re hoping nothing goes wrong because if it does, you lose big time.

I’m not built for that. And honestly, I think a lot of people pretend to be.

The sweet spot for me is $2-3 million. That’s it. That’s the business I run and the game I’m playing.

And I’m the guy who can help you build that.

At that revenue run rate, you have:

  • a small team
  • lower overheads
  • less complexity
  • the most exciting bit…lots of profit

This week’s episode is me just being honest about why I’ve chosen the smaller, simpler, more profitable business.

Here’s what we unpack on this free session:

1. I’m an artist first, business owner second

I coach people. I speak from stage. I sell ideas. For a long time, I didn’t even see myself as an entrepreneur. But I am deeply connected to my craft. I need to stay in it, stay close to it, stay connected to it. That matters to me more than an empire.

2. Simplicity beats complexity every single time

The moment you get big, you inherit problems. Team management. Compliance. Legal issues. Multiple state regulations. I did the math: the extra money from a $20 million business isn’t worth the stress of managing that complexity. I’d rather take home a million dollars a year with three staff than take home three million with constant headaches.

3. Honor your limitations (it’s actually mature)

I read a book called “Let Your Life Speak” that changed how I think about this. Your vocation isn’t something you force through willpower. It’s discovered by listening to what energizes you, what drains you, where you keep hitting walls. For me, I want time with my family. I don’t want to be traveling all the time. That’s a limitation I choose. And that’s okay.

If you want to build a small, profitable, simple coaching business that gives you freedom, credibility, and profit, you’re in the right place.
