The Secret to Confident Conversations (Even with Strangers!)

Have you ever been at an event and felt super awkward talking to people??

You know in your mind that there are potentially great connections in the room, but you feel really uncomfortable to introduce yourself and meet lots of strangers.

The skill of saying ‘hello’ – without being weird, and having great conversations is one of the hidden secrets to business success.

If I look back over the 17 years of building my business, it’s not just the marketing and sales strategies that have built my results.

It’s been the conversations and friendships that have come out of those meetings that have led to some of my most lucrative projects.

Your ability to have great conversations with strangers will significantly impact your success more than almost any marketing tactic will.

And that’s why I recorded this episode – to share practical strategies to help you engage in conversations with confidence, ease, and less weirdness.

Here is a short snippet of the 3 strategies to instantly boost your confidence….that I cover on the podcast

1. Stand Tall & Take Up Space

Your body language speaks before you do. Studies show that standing up straight with your shoulders back and taking up more space naturally makes you appear more confident and attractive. People are drawn to certainty and strength-so carry yourself in a way that signals confidence. No need for exaggerated posturing, just a strong, open stance.

2. Lock Eyes (Just a Little Longer)

Eye contact is one of the most powerful tools in communication. A simple shift-holding eye contact just a fraction of a second longer than usual-creates a deeper sense of connection. When listening, stay engaged. When speaking, follow a natural rhythm: look at the person, glance away briefly, then reconnect. This balance makes conversations flow effortlessly.

I dive into the “Talk to speak” pattern that you have to be aware of to build rapport quickly. Listen to it here

3. Pace, Pace, Lead

Ever met someone who dove too deep, too fast? Great conversations start with pacing-asking safe, comfortable questions before leading into deeper topics. This builds trust and keeps the interaction natural rather than forced. Next week, I’ll share the exact questions to ask at networking events to effortlessly move from small talk to meaningful dialogue.

Networking doesn’t have to feel forced. With the right approach, you’ll create meaningful connections effortlessly.

Reply and let me know. Which of these strategies do you need to work on the most?

Here’s to making conversations easy (or at least less awkward).
