Have you ever listened to a speaker that absolutely captivated you?
Like the type of speaker that has you hanging on every word they say…
And by the end of their presentation, you’re completely sold on the idea or belief they were pitching you…
This my friend, is the power of story.
The problem is most people don’t know how to tell captivating and engaging stories. You probably know that storytelling is important, but you don’t really know how to not tell a boring story!
The good news is on this week’s Expert Edge Podcast (and in the message below) I went deep into three little-known strategies that very few people understand when it comes to storytelling.
But in a nutshell, here they are:
1. You need to have inner and outer experiences
When you tell a story the outer experience of your story captures the interest of the audience but the inner experience of the story allows them to enter the story themselves.
For example, the outer experience may explain your surroundings and your inner experience will explain how you are feeling in that given moment.
I explained this deeply in the podcast this week!!!
- Use V.A.K
VAK stands for Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic.
Describe what you saw visually, what you heard auditory, and what you felt kinesthetically.
For example: Instead of just saying you went to the beach, you might describe the sunset that you saw when you went to the beach, the sound of the waves crashing on the shore and the cool ocean breeze on your face.
- Link the story to a sense of meaning
The content of your story isn’t going to be relevant for most of your audience but the meaning you give the story should resonate with all of them.
Think – What new perspective did this story give you?
These are the types of strategies, among many others that I’ll be going over in our upcoming Free training series called Sell From Webinar & Live Stages.
