What actually worked for us this year – and what didn’t!

Come December, there’s this moment where your brain goes,
“Wow… this year flew by, followed immediately by…

“…and it also felt like 47 months.”

That’s usually the sign it’s time to pause, breathe, and make sense of the wild ride you’ve been on.

I don’t know what your year looked like, but ours included moving countries twice (don’t recommend that), sustaining a multi-million-dollar business, raising tween-age kids, launching my first book, and accidentally discovering that emotional fuel has a very real expiration date if you don’t recharge it.

And here’s the thing most entrepreneurs forget:

You can’t grow a powerful business on an under-resourced nervous system.

Reflection isn’t a luxury-it’s a scaling strategy.

And that’s exactly why Sarah and I dove deep into the big yearly insights on The Expert Edge.

Listen now: Episode 298 | 10 Biggest Lessons From 2025 (Part 2) w/ Sarah & Colin Boyd
(Part 1 was fire-this one goes even deeper.)

Inside, we unpack our 10 biggest lessons from the year – personally, relationally, and in business. Here’s a preview of a few we cover:

1. Build credibility in the trust recession

These last few years have made people skeptical. Burned by overhyped programs, under-delivered experiences, and AI-generated everything… people are craving the real deal.
Your best differentiation strategy? Actual integrity. Be who you say you are. Deliver what you promise. (Yes, that will still work in 2026.)

This year, I launched my first published book, One Presentation Away. Having a book is also a solid credibility strategy for you as an expert.

2. People want more high touch

AI is exploding… which means genuine human connection is more valuable than ever. Send the personal note. Record the personal video. Host the live call. Authenticity instantly stands out – because real humans are becoming rare online.

3. Value the people who support you

Your team, your spouse, the people holding your world together behind the scenes – they’re not “extras” in your business movie. They are the movie. And the more you value them, the stronger your business foundation becomes.

4. Keep perspective & define roles in a tough season

When life feels chaotic, it’s not the time to be everything to everyone. It’s the time to get clear on:
What is my job right now? This is how Sarah and I survived moves, injuries, health issues, business growth… and stayed married!

5. Don’t quit….rest

Sometimes you don’t need a new strategy. You need a nap. Or a week off. Or three weeks (which we booked and highly recommend). Your business can’t run on fumes forever – and neither can you.

If you want the full list of all 10 lessons and how to integrate them into your next year – this episode might be one of the most grounding ones you’ll hear all season.
